Spoken languages in Kiern Vale

The native language of the absolute majority of the vale residents is “Common En’mirin”, which is the local vernacular version of the imperial common language. Rural and lower castes will often use it with a strong local accent that may seem somewhat inarticulate to more learned or higher-class En’miri – especially given their habit to mix many local Farilian words and expression, imbuing their speech with a distinct local flavor.

Today, many zealous Far’lil are showing interest in learning and speaking solely in the “Pure Far’lil language”, which they fervently believe was spoken in the elder days in the original Far'lil homeland. However, it is clear that this ancient (or newly invented) language is not their true mother tongue.

The nobility, scholars and respected artisans speak, or attempt to speak proper High En’mirin, with many of them struggling to refine both their Grammer and pronunciation to speak it properly.

Demi Human languages

The Gurg in Kiern Vale (like their brethren anywhere else) do not have a language of their own. They speak a mixture of Common En’mirin and Low En’mirin (Gutmirin) with a typical Gurg accent – or as some mockingly refer to this speech: “Gurgmirin”.

Only Mistweavers and few scholars and artisans can speak Mithrit, the blessed language of the ruined Mistweaver kingdom. Nearly all Mistweavers can speak High or Common En’mirin as well. Very few people in Kiern Vale who are not Ogres can speak or understand the Ogre language. On the other hand, some of the simple hunters, scouts and shepherds know at least few words in different Humanoid and even monster languages.

Languages used by humanoids and monsters

The most common savage humanoid language used in and around Kiern Vale is Dush’ma – which is spoken by the Rocklings and similar races that occasionally invade the eastern and northern parts of the vale. it is followed by Shaar’gut, which is spoken by lizard-folk and other creatures enslaved to the Ogres in the Urgaka swamps; and Pur’garan, a bizarre and distorted language used by the Pur’rathi and other deformed creatures. The latter sounds like a mocking distortion of En’mirin.
